This page sets out the standards every Road Ready Picks article must meet. Our research steps are on How We Review, and the criteria behind each list are on How We Rank.
Independence
- Our editors choose which products to cover and how to order them. Brands, sellers and advertisers do not.
- We do not accept payment for coverage, placement or a better position in a list.
- Commission rates are not part of our ranking criteria.
- If a brand ever provides a product or anything else of value, the article will disclose it near the top.
Accuracy and sourcing
- Every specification, warranty term, certification and safety claim must trace to a source we can name: a manufacturer page or manual, a retailer listing, a standards body, a government site or a named independent publication.
- When sources disagree, we show both figures or use the less flattering one, and we say so.
- We write “not listed” when a maker does not publish a figure. We do not estimate missing specs.
- Marketing figures (for example, “inflates a tire in 35 seconds” or “8000A peak”) are labeled as the maker’s claim, with the conditions the maker gives, if any.
- We do not claim to have used, measured or evaluated products in person. Measurements we cite belong to the source we name.
Balance
- Every product section includes cons and a “Skip if” list.
- Every guide includes a section on who should not buy the product type at all.
- We avoid empty superlatives and promises such as “never get stranded again.”
Prices, ratings and images
- We do not print prices in our articles, because they change often. Use the “Check price on Amazon” links.
- We do not display star ratings or review counts, and we do not use them as a reason to rank a product.
- Product images come only from sources we are allowed to use, such as Amazon’s official tools or images we create or license.
Use of AI
We use AI tools for research and drafting. Before an article is published, we check its key figures against the sources, and the site owner is responsible for what we publish. We do not publish large batches of near-identical articles.
Safety topics
Jump starters, battery chargers, lithium battery packs, compressed air and windshield-mounted devices involve real safety and legal questions. Our articles:
- point readers to the vehicle owner’s manual and the product manual,
- mention safety standards only when the maker lists them,
- check the CPSC recall database for the brands we cover,
- note that rules on windshield mounts and device use while driving vary by state, without giving legal advice.
Pen names
Our authors write under pen names, as explained on our About page. Pen names are not real individual people and do not hold professional credentials. The editorial team stands behind every article published under them.
Corrections and updates
If you find an error, contact us with the page and the source. We check every report. Material corrections are made promptly and the “last updated” date changes. We also review each guide on a regular schedule and when a product is discontinued, replaced or recalled.
